Since 1967, the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego (JCF) has facilitated grants of over $1.8 billion into the community. Two-thirds of these funds have been granted to organizations in San Diego, with the remaining primarily granted to organizations in the United States and Israel.
JCF's Competitive Application Platform (CAP) customizes and organizes competitive grantmaking programs for our donors and partnering organizations working to make tangible and long-lasting positive impacts in the San Diego region and beyond.

The Fredericks Family Grant seeks to make an impact in San Diego, nationally, and internationally by supporting the charitable projects of faith-based Christian organizations. Impact areas include Education, Environment, Food Insecurity, Homelessness, Health & Human Services, and Military & Veterans.
Projects may address one or more of these impact areas and should be completed within a 12-month period. General operating requests will not be considered in this round.
Grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded to 501(c)3 non-profit Christian organizations, depending on the scope of the project. If the project is being conducted outside of the United States, it must operate under a 501(c)3 registered fiscal agent or “US Friends of” entity to be eligible.
History
The Chortek Weisman Family Foundation was originally formed, and remains inspired by, the history of philanthropy embodied by Peter and Elaine Chortek, of blessed memories. Both Peter and Elaine believed strongly in repairing the world by doing good things for their community and spearheaded causes throughout their lives. With the passing of Peter in 2011 and Elaine in 2022, their generous legacies live on in the work of the Chortek Weisman Family Foundation, now managed by their children, Susan Chortek Weisman and Robert Chortek, and close family friends.
Guidelines
The Chortek Weisman Family Foundation seeks to make an impact in San Diego County, in areas of teen mothers, foster youth over the age of 18 who have left the system, communities experiencing antisemitism (with a special focus on school campuses), and women involved in or threatened by domestic violence or sexual assault. Projects may address one or more of these impact areas and grant periods may be up to two years, depending on the scope of the project.
Grant requests may range between $20,000 - $60,000, depending on the scope of the project, and must be for project-specific costs only. General operating requests will not be considered in this round.
Eligible 501(c)3 nonprofits located in and serving San Diego County must complete the Letter of Intent form prior to being invited to complete the full grant application. Returning grantees will be required to provide a brief progress report on their current grant during the LOI stage. A select group of nonprofits will be invited to complete a full grant application. Chosen nonprofits will receive the invitation directly from the Jewish Community Foundation San Diego. Grant distributions will be awarded by June 2025.
